Enhancing Your Sexual Relationship

WHY

Would you and your partner like to improve your sex life?

WHO/WHAT

Couples with low/no sexual desire or frequency, and/or desire discrepancy (in which one partner is more interested in sex than the other) who are interested in and ready to embark on a journey toward enhancing their sexual experiences and relationships. The content of the group is based on the work of the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team of the University of Ottawa, including elements and facilitating factors of optimal sexual experiences as well as research on group couples therapy.

The groups are part of a research project studying the effectiveness of group therapy in enhancing sexual relationships. Your participation in the research project (which is optional) consists of completing questionnaires at multiple time points.

WHEN

Optimal Sexual Experiences Group Facilitators

Heather Brooks Rensmith, LCSW, CST: I’m a licensed clinical social worker and AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists) Sex Therapist, with 10+ years using warmth and containment to help individuals and those in various relationship arrangements move toward sexual health, pleasure, and play, while moving away from pathology and shame. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, and the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), and I’m certified in treating Problem Sexual Behavior by the Sexual Health Alliance.

Amy Ponteri, LPC, ATR-BC, LCAT: I'm a mental health art therapist with 25+ years of experience. In my private practice, I work with couples and families to help partners better understand themselves and each other, deepen connection, and find more ease and joy through self-acceptance. Therapy is often hard work, so I believe it should also come with a hefty dose of humor, play, and grace.

Andy Pfandler, MA: I’m a marriage and family therapist associate specializing in sex therapy. My work focuses on emotions as communication, the ways our past informs our present, and how our body and thoughts connect. I’m passionate about working with couples, adult families, and teens, with a blend of compassionate directness and slightly goofy realness. I have a special interest in helping address how conventional masculinity boxes in and dis-empowers everyone, including queer and trans folk, and cisgender men and women.
